EU innovation! Launch of the Entry-Exit System for Travelers (EES)

The Entry-Exit System is likely to be launched on November 10, 2024 – so said the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs.  Ilva Johansson predicted that the system will affect about 700 million travelers each year.

EES is an automated system aimed at modernizing border management in EU countries.

The system is currently in the final stages of testing.

What is the EES system and how will it affect foreigners entering the EU?

The Entry/Exit System (EES) is an automated IT system that will register foreign travelers entering the EU for a short period of time, regardless of whether they are eligible for visa-free entry or not.

This system is designed to replace the current manual stamping of passports and will record the traveler’s name, type of travel document, biometric data (fingerprints and facial images), as well as the date and place of entry and exit from the EU.

Attention ! In addition to registering the entry and exit of travelers, the system will also register refusals of entry.

What is the purpose of this system?  The most important purpose of this system is to modernize border management, prevent illegal migration into the bloc and protect European citizens.

What else will this system help identify?  EES will also help identify those who overstay and those who try to enter the EU with forged documents.

Once the EES goes live, all foreigners will have to register with the system.

Travelers’ data will be stored in a secure database for three years.

This means that travelers will not have to go through the registration process every time they enter and leave the bloc
