The border between Poland and Germany
Poland temporarily reinstates border controls with Germany and Lithuania from July 7, 2025

Starting Monday, July 7, 2025, Poland will temporarily introduce border controls at the internal borders of the Schengen area — with Germany and Lithuania. This was officially announced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk on July 1 during a press conference.
The goal is to curb illegal migration and strengthen national security.
According to Tusk, this decision is a response to Germany’s tightened control measures and the growing flow of migrants from Belarus via Lithuania.
The controls will be introduced at land borders and will be temporary, in accordance with the rules of the Schengen Borders Code.
Poland consulted with the German and Lithuanian governments in advance.
We remind you that similar measures have already been introduced by Germany since September 2024 in response to the illegal migration crisis.
